Until recently, I dismissed the idea of a DJI full-frame mirrorless camera as nothing more than internet hype. But today, two new developments have emerged — and they’re making the story a lot harder to ignore.
1. A Leaked DJI Teaser
A well-known DJI content creator briefly shared a teaser promoting an upcoming event scheduled for September 15. One of my readers managed to snap a fast (and admittedly low-quality) screenshot before it was pulled offline.
Although the teaser doesn’t reveal much, the visuals strongly suggest a focus on interchangeable lenses — and there’s a faint outline of what looks like a compact, boxy cine-style body, reminiscent of the Sony FX3.
2. A Curious YouTube Test
Meanwhile, a German YouTuber shared footage of himself testing a mysterious new cine camera. He claims it’s not made by Canon — and the camera itself is blurred throughout the video.
However, one thing remains in clear view: a Viltrox PL-to-L mount adapter. That detail alone reveals a lot — this is almost certainly an unreleased L-mount camera. Could it be a new Panasonic? Maybe. But could it actually be from DJI? Suddenly, the idea doesn’t seem so far-fetched.
I’m still cautious — but also increasingly convinced that DJI might be preparing to make a serious move into the mirrorless cinema market. And if so, this could be a huge win for the entire industry. DJI has a track record of disrupting established players, and their entry into this space would no doubt push the traditional Japanese brands to raise the bar on innovation.
Here are the rumored DJI mirrorless camera specs:
- Full Frame L-mount cine camera
- Cine focused
- Integrated viewfinder just like this Sony model (but less pronounced)
- Hasselblad X2DII Color science and ICON menu
- Announcement on September 15, 8am EST time
